A 2400-square-foot flag has also been prepared that will be hoisted in Islamabad later during the day.

Let me solve this mystry of 67th & 68th anniversary..... Pakistan came into existence in 1947. So people in 1947 celebrated the independence day on 14 August 1947. So as a matter of the celebration, that was the first independence day which was celebrated. On the other hand in 14 August 1948 Pakistan was 1 year old so people celebrated the 1st anniversary but they celebrated the independence day second time.
So it should be clear that independence day and anniversary are two things..
Not sure how it can be 68th independence day. Present day Pakistan came into existence only in 1971. So count.
I have read on more than one places that "68th anniversary of Pakistan". Why people made such a reckless mistake. It could be easily counted that it is 67th anniversary of Pakistan.

We in India are also grateful to Jinnah Saab for removing the unwanted, cancerous part from the main body. In the early years after the partition, many Indians talked about - and wanted - one big secular Indian Republic. Why is the mainstream media saying its 68th birthday?? It is the 67th birthday. Its simple mathematics. Pakistan is now in its 68th year but the number of years since its birth is 67.
