No Bail: Send Gullu Butt back to jail, says govt
An anti-terrorism court earlier rejected his bail plea.
LAHORE:
The Punjab government on Wednesday moved a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the concession of bail granted by Lahore High Court to Shahid Aziz alias Gullu Butt, accused of damaging vehicles parked near Minhajul Quran Secretariat on June 17. The prosecutor general said this was a terrorism case and the concession of bail could lead to unrest. He requested the Supreme Court to set aside the LHC’s order. A division bench of the LHC on August 12 granted Gullu Butt bail. Butt is accused of smashing cars during clashes between the Pakistan Awami Tehreek workers and police outside the Minhajul Quran International Secretariat on June 17. Video footage has shown him smashing windscreens and windows of private vehicles with a club, while several police officials looked on. The Faisal Town police had lodged a case against Gullu Butt. An anti-terrorism court earlier rejected his bail plea.
