KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed the incharge of the Karachi operation to appear in court on August 25 and submit a comprehensive report on the mechanism and manner in which raids are being conducted by the law enforcers.

A division bench, headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh, passed this order while taking serious exception to the non-compliance of its directions to explain the mechanism and legality of the operation by the law enforcers.

Hearing a number of petitions seeking the recovery of various men allegedly detained by the law enforcers, the judges had ordered the provincial chiefs of the police and Rangers to follow the law and explain the legality of such raids.

On subsequent hearings, similar directives were issued in various cases while the law enforcement agencies heads failed to explain the operation's mechanism.

The situation was the same on Tuesday during the hearing of a missing person's case.

"A number of petitions pertaining to the missing persons allegedly picked up during the ongoing operation are pending. Besides formal statements and comments, no progress report has been filed in this regard," observed Justice Sheikh.
