Rape Case: Police admonished for casual attitude

LAHORE: Supreme Court on Thursday reprimanded police for failing to arrest those involved in the rape of a five-year-old girl in Mughalpura last year.  SSP Investigation Abdul Rab and CIA SP Umar Virk submitted a report to a two-judge bench at the Lahore registry.  The SSP said police had interrogated 231 suspects but no arrest was made due to lack of evidence.  He said DNA tests were also conducted. The court said people were waiting for the arrest of those who had had raped the girl and the police had adopted a casual attitude about it. The bench adjourned hearing for a date to be fixed by the registrar’s office and directed the police to come up with a better report. The bench was holding suo motu proceedings against police failure to arrest the suspects.
