The Supreme Court has asked the former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to provide sound justifications to gain access to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s contempt of court case records.
Sheikh Ahsan, counsel for former CJ, told The Express Tribune that the registrar office has demanded valid reasons to access the records as per the procedures set out in the Supreme Court’s Rule 1980. The counsel added that he will inform the court on Thursday (today) that the documents were needed for the purpose of filing a defamation suit against Imran Khan.
The Express Tribune has learnt that the PTI’s legal team is drafting a reply to the defamation notice served by the former CJ. A member of the party’s legal wing has confirmed that the team – led by Hamid Khan – has commenced working on Imran Khan’s reply to the suit. However, he added that legal team plans to respond to the defamation notice after the long march as they do not want to open too many fronts at once.

I was surprised to know that this Iftikhar guy is cousin of Rana Sanaullah. People laid their lives for him. If it is true that he was involved in rigging then it's gonna be serious that should be accounted for death penalty.
@Aysha M: Of course President Musharraf was right. The only mistake the President made was that he let this crook go scot free and continue as a curse to Pakistan. In this country where encounters with security squads is a common phenomenon, another such encounter to rid the nation of a monstrously corrupt judge with greed of a labrador would not have harmed no one. None.
What's the fuss if Ex-CJ is seeking IK's record. IK's has not done nothing wrong. As far as defamation is concerned we are used to through stones at others while living in glass house. Being NOT corrupt is not enough........... what about lust for power?
Moral of the story: Never trust a man with one eyes looking East and the other looking West!
@Adnan Siddiqui:
So Musharraf was right in his remarks against CJ, let him free
@Sara: He is unfortunate because he came across an honest, righteous man in a country where corruption is deemed acceptable since it benefits everyone... unless you are at the bottom of the food chain.
@Aysha M: "Really? so what Musharraf was saying was all true"
No. Not at least according to Asma Jahangir and Aitezaz Ahsan, the major campaign supporters of CJ. These two led the forces trying to proof Musharraf was wrong. These black coats do not have any regrets till this day.
@Sara: This implies that majority of people is with PTI. Right?
Ex-CJ is trying to become a politician, whereas he has zero value in Pakistani political spectrum. He lost his repute when in service and damaged his left over repute after the retirement.
Hamid Khan the CJP's last defender also on the opposite team. He is directly affected party being PTI's candidate for NA-125
Let go of the country and its resources Mr Ex CJ. Please focus on stopping your son from taking another Monaco trip by providing favours to someone.
Ex-CJ is unfortunate because PTI didn't won the elections. If PTI would had been elected by the majority then right now Ex-CJ would had been the best chief justice in the universe. The worst form of democracy is being self-righteous and PTI is doing well at it.
this is part of dram to show that courts donot favour ex-CJ when they will side while giving decision.
Back off boys! Its so high school, may be junior high. Warring for personal gains detrimental for national interest. Had enough of this nonsensical political e.nvironment
Ex-CJ should try to "see straight" for once and mistake that he is still the CJ. Things are going to be different.
@Adnan Siddiqui: Really? so what Musharraf was saying was all true
Give it a rest Mr Ex-CJ. The entire nation knows the truth about your tenure now.
