DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Three people including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) representative Faqeer Jamshed Ahmed were killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Dera Ismail Khan on Monday morning, Express News reported.

Ahmed, who was in his mid-fifties, was also a local religious leader and was considered a 'saint' by his followers and belonged to the Sufi order of Islam, which is reviled by militants.

Police said an improvised explosive device planted on the road exploded as Ahmed's car passed near the village of Maddi, just outside Dera Ismail Khan.

"Faqir Jamshed, his driver and guard were killed in the blast," district police chief Sadiq Baloch told AFP.

Another police official, Tikka Khan, confirmed the incident and the casualties.

Baloch said that Ahmed might have been targeted by militants for being a Sufi saint.

Police reached the site of the blast and cordoned off the area, and a search operation is underway.

Three people have been arrested so far and the Elite Force is taking part in the search operation as well.

I have met the man Faqir Jamshed. Truly a great man coming from a great father and even greater grand father. The person who has done this evil deed must remember that he too shall die. Let me remind him that killing of one muslim is like the killing of the entire mankind ...l truly wonder what it must be to kill a friend of Allah.... May Allah grant his father Sayed Faqir Abdul Hameed his mother and his wife and children sabr in this trying time. Ameen
