England triumphed in the Commonwealth Games medals table for the first time in 28 years on Sunday, but there were final day consolations for former top dog Australia with wins in men’s hockey, netball and a squash double.
England started the day already assured of top spot in the medals table for the first time since 1986, dethroning Australia. By the end of Sunday’s action, with just 11 more titles to be decided, England had captured 174 medals of which 58 were gold. Australia, who will host the next Games in 2018, finished on a total of 137 with 49 gold.
The closing ceremony took place at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

@Hilarious: There is no shame for Indians ..India is continuously achieving stellar feats in sports ..they are improving with each Olympic games ,Asian games and Commonwealth games..they were 2nd in 2010 ..India is likely overtake the level of Australia in a decade ..no shame for a nation which used to win only in hockey a couple of decades ago
This is really silly. Instead of both countries bowing their heads in shame, we continue to mock each other. Let us acknowledge the efforts of those athletes who could win medals, and those who participated, and strive to improve rather than these cheap shots at each other.
This is one sport where only India and Pakistan can vie for gold - others stand no chance.
Kudos to Kashyap, Gowda, Joshna Ponappa, Dipika Pallikal, et al and of course to Waseem and the Pak athletes too. Godspeed and better luck to both countries in the Asian Games.
@Mubasher Fakeman: yes but we still dont beg like Pakistan. U can loan some money from India to build your country this biggest begging bowl...
@lol And 1500 million Indians only managed 15 gold whereas countries with less than 20% populations than Indians managed 58, 49, 32 and 19 gold medals respectively.
