No contact: Govt denies Nawaz-Shujaat phone call

A govt spokesperson termed the report as “merely speculative and a figment of the correspondent’s imagination”.

The government has strongly denied that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had made a phone call to PML-Q leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain before the month of Ramazan.

Referring to a news item published in The Express Tribune on Friday, titled “rare contact: first Nawaz phone call to Shujaat in a decade”, a spokesman of the federal government strongly denied that any such phone call has been made.

He regarded this as “merely speculative and a figment of the correspondent’s imagination”. The spokesman wished that the reporter should have obtained the version of the government before filing this story.

The spokesman expressed the hope that in future such ‘misleading news stories’ on sensitive matters would be avoided as they could lead to misunderstanding and undesired speculations.
