According to a statement issued on Cricket South Africa website, Kallis said, “I realized in Sri Lanka that my dream of playing in a World Cup was a bridge too far.”

“Ï just knew on that tour that I was done. The squad that was in Sri Lanka is an amazing one and I believe they have a good chance of bringing the trophy home in March.
Kallis said he would still be playing for Sydney Thunder as he has two years contract with them. And he might also help Kolkata Knight Riders defending their Indian Premier League title won earlier this year.
Commenting on his retirement, Cricket South Africa (CSA) Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat, said, “South Africa has been blessed with one of the world’s greatest cricketing talents in Jacques Kallis. He is undeniably one of the greatest players ever to have graced our wonderful game and he has certainly been the Proteas standard-bearer of excellence for nearly two decades.

A great batsmen / a good bowler and the greatest all-rounder. He is so great that he is announcing his retirement just 6 months before the world-cup although he is still much better and fitter than all "those" misbahs, imrans and waqars who had continued to play for 2 years or more just to participate in "Another" world cup.
No doubt, yet another addition very soon to whatever X-Y-Z TV network's commentary team.... mainly to show off the nice youthful "thatch" ... as most of them do these days... "yea, yea!!" :-)
Legends come, entertain and lives forever!! Hats off to this one more cricketing legend. All the best to Kallis for the next phase of life..
One of the best players to ever play the game. I would've liked to see him until the World Cup, but I guess he held himself to a very high standard and he did not just want to play for the sake of playing. Great player!
Ali Khan Digital Engagement Team, USCENTCOM
A one great player. Far better from the ones who scored centuries against the weak and not at times when their country needed!
@Indians ki Aapa: Pakistan cricket team always was a team of 13 players whenever they played at home, with umpires 'winning' the game for them most of the time.
Great player!
@pakiyonkimaka:
Better watch old videos of the cricket matches played by Pakistan. You will start learning how excellent cricket is played.
@pakiyonkimaka
And he was a better bowler than any Indian bowler in history, and he was NOT a flat pitch batsmen like most Indians
best batsman in Rahul Dravid,Lara and Sachin league.......far better than any pakistani player or we may say,,,,uncomparable with any pak player........
legend
far better than over rated imran khan.
The best cricketer from the modern era. A notch above Tendulkar , Lara and ponting and I say that because he averages more than them in Tests and has almost 300 wickets as well. And people who criticize him for playing too slow, they need to understand that it was the team strategy. The bloke has the fastest half century in tests. We wont see another all-rounder like him in the near future for sure.
