Meanwhile, Central and regional Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene on Monday to sight the moon in other parts of Pakistan.

@Ahmed:
Very well written comment brother. Just need to add one more point to it.
Local moonsighting was IMPOSSIBLE in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
However Saudi government's official position is that, even if moon is not sighted in Saudi Arabia, and they get a shahadat of moon sighting from countries west of Saudi Arabia, before fajr time in Saudi Arabia, then they still count it as valid sighting. But if they get an indication after fajr time has started in Saudi Arabia, then they go for next day.
Sunset is at 7.05 pm in Jeddah and Fajr time starts at 4.20 am. That gives them 9 hours and 15 mins after their sunset to wait and see if someone has sighted moon in Europe, Africa and parts of North America.
But Pakistan is 2 hours ahead of Saudi Arabia, even if by same formula, it is possible that fajr has already started in Pakistan, but in Saudi Arabia they have 2 more hours to wait for a sighting. So if moon is sighted in that 2 hour window, Saudis will celebrate and Pakistan should not.
In this particular year, Saudis started fasting a day ahead (which again was not possible based on moonsighting), so they completed 30 days, they will celebrate Eid regardless of moonsighting.
Mufti Shahabuddin is correct, and the people of Punjab and Sindh, must not worry about it, because 85% of them don't have soam ( Roza ) and sallat (Namaz) moreover they are only the name muslim , and follow their old Hindo tradition.
On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, U.S Centcom Digital Engagement Team extends its warmest greetings and regards to Muslims and Muslim nations around the world. We wish good health, peace and prosperity to all those celebrating this blessed occasion.

This country consists of groups it can never be a nation
Why do we not see the Peshawar "ulema" looking out for moons of other Islamic months ?? Aren't they important Islamic months too ? Anyway it's sheer disgusting to see the flabby burly "ulema" jostling each other to have their faces in the TV cameras' frame.
To sight the moon there are certain conditions that are required. (1) Moon age (more than 24 hours required) (2) Moon altitude above the horizon(above 8 degrees) (3) Illuminated fraction of the moon disc (more than 1.5%) (4) Angular distance from the sun (above 14 Degress) and most important of them all is (5) the moonset time. The longer the moon stays after sunset, greater are the chances of a moon sight. There is also a sixth factor, not directly related to moon, but it is also is equally important and that is visibility conditions. None of these conditions was satisfied throughout our country on the evening of Sunday 27 July, 2014. The moonset and sunset timings were same throughout the KPK (from DIKhan to Peshawar). The moon age was only 15 and a half hours. It was extremely thin and very close to the sun with 0 degree altitude. There was not even the faintest of chance of moon sight. I wonder how people sighted the moon? As far as Saudi Arabia is concerned, legend has it that actual or physical moon sighting is not required. All they do is calculate if moon sets after the sun. If it is true that is, if moon remains above the horizon after sunset whether for a few minutes or longer, moon sighting is declared. However, there was no chance of moon sighting in UAE, Saudia and so on.
Checked moonset and sunset time for Peshawar, Bannu and Karak/
According to computer program ACCURATE TIMES, sunset time and moonset time are the same for each location. . This means that moonset was before sunset.. How could anybody sight the moon when the moonset is before sunset?
http://mccchicago.org/the-chicago-hilal-committee-meeting-is-in-session/ Eid Mubarak! Eid will be on Monday, July 28, 2014. Based on upon authentic moon sighting reports, the committee has declared that Ramadan will end with 29 days and Shawwal 1, 1435 will be Monday, July 28, 2014.
9:55 PM: We continue to contact representatives through out North America. There have been no authentic moon sighting reports from anywhere as of yet within North America.
8:55 PM: Chicago Hilal Committee continue to contact representatives through out North America. There have been no authentic moon sighting reports from anywhere as of yet within North America.
7:50 PM: The Chicago Hilal Committee meeting is in session. We have begun contacting representatives through out North America. We have received word from the Caribbean that they have not sighted the moon anywhere in the area.
Further, we are also aware of sighting reports in South Africa and South America; however, both of these areas are not part of Chicago Hilal’s moon sighting area (matla) and would not be considered in the final decision. Please review the criteria by clicking here.
What about putting this guy in jail for creating chaos and anarchy in Pakistan. But the Khan dont dare against his own tribals but anyone else.
Tribune.com why do you make such mistakes?
Please correct!
Muslims are bound to follow the state's decision. its the state's responsibility. individuals cant take decisions even if they have seen the moon themselves and still their word is not accepted by state for any reason. To follow saudi arab or not is a state's decision not any individuals or group of individuals. popalzai like self-muftis should read first. may be they cant at all.
Popalzai should be tried for treason against Pakistan
proud Pakistani.. ? really
how about masjid Qasim tells the government about these sitings so it can be doubble checked and declared. 48 testimonies are obligarty to be accepted wen told to government. Religius enforcement s are job of government. along with implementation of whole Deen. otherwise whats stopping people in every chowk declaring their own eid.
If the pseudo intellectuals want to celebrate Eid on a single day then all the Muslims should celebrate on the same date. Wherever in the world, moon is sighted first, its Eid for every Muslim in the world (this is actually the age-old fatwa regarding this issue--and yes I know that for most of you fatwas are evil, while the British system of legal precedence is holy grail) --- And then situation is worsened by the blindfolds of nationalism.
And if you want to celebrate Eid after sighting the moon, then let every person decide when he chooses to see the moon!
@Zog That is a lame logic! Even in Australia there will be two eids where there is no role of Muslim religion with state governance. Separation of religion and state will not solve the problem !
Moon is Peshawar according to lunar chart came at 6;33 till 7;53 but it was 1% only so not visible to anyone. Tommorrow it will be visible from 7;26 to 8;26 and be 3%. Its darker at that time and 3% can be seen with difficulty.
There was no possibility of seeing the moon in Pakistan or Afghanistan on Sunday. Popalzai's 48 witnesses saw something else.. (Ref: www.moonsighting.com , go there and see the map of locations where moon could be seen on sunday) As for Saudi claiming they saw the moon, that was not possible either. However Saudi has a history of declaring Eid without seeing the moon (even though they claim they do). Their decision seems to be based on possibility of sighting the moon anywhere on earth, even if it the moon could not possibly be sighted in the middle east... If you follow scientific calculations, Mufti Muneeb's team has never sighted the moon when it could not be seen in Pakistan, whereas some muftis in KP and saudi almost always do!
And another promise bricked by PTI, who promised that KPK would follow Pakistan...
And the have also continued with Bachas Khan as the name of the airport .
@Proud Pakistani ..ever heard of the internet? Look up moon sighting and u will find there was no way moon could be seen in pk anywhere. Moon charts r available for next 200 years. Atleast popalzai should check if the guy giving shahadat has seen it at a time when it is technically possible to see it.
SAUDIBANIZATION.......
Kudos to government (both Federal and KPK). You can't even solve this crisis, how can you lead the nation!!!
Now go on and celebrate 14th August for a whole month!
LMAO :D As usual
next eid, lets send Pakistani mullah's to the moon (one way ticket)
The government should appoint a shariah complaint cleric so that we all can celebrate Eid with rest of the muslim world. Why is Pakistan always celebrating isolated Eid and Ramadan due to one government paid mufti who is clinging to this position till his death. Why is he not accepting the testimonies as allowed by shariah when his eyes can't see the moon at the brinks of the other side of the arabian gulf.
This is the best example of why state and religion need to be separated and Pakistani mullah's role in society be limited
The old government paid mufti with thick glasses will look for moon after a day at the shores of Karachi which is ironically few miles away from middle east where moon has already been sighted. He also does not accept testimonies of 48 muslim adults which is obligatory under a shariah. The government should stop interfering and let the independent clerics decide it.
Popalzai needs to be send back to Afganjistan , where he can advise Karzai .
To honour the great moon sighting prowess of Masjid Qasim Ali khan
NASA has decided to rename Hubble telescope
" Popalzai Telescope "
Here we go again. Can someone put this insanity to an end. For god sake.
