At the invitation of Shahi Imam Jamia Masjid Delhi, Syed Ahmed Bukhari, Abdul Basit visited the Shahi Masjid on Saturday and had Iftar there, said a message received from New Delhi on Sunday.
This was the first time that a Pakistani envoy was invited for Iftar at the Jamia Masjid and also addressed the congregation.
Basit underlined the unique spirit of Islam, which was universal and embedded in love, peace and justice for all.
He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was committed to normalisation of relations between the two countries on the basis of mutual respect and mutual interest.

@P N Eswaran: The only issue is that sometimes by the time you try to find what flavor of Islam they belong to you might be dead.
@HG: Basit meant "true Islam". There are a variety of Islam: Political Islam, Moderate Islam, Radical Islam depending on convinence..
Basit underlined the unique spirit of Islam, which was universal and embedded in love, peace and justice for all. It was just displayed in Gujranwala.
Improving relation between India and Pakistan is vital for both countries.India with 170 millions of Muslim population is most peaceful country and its Muslim population is more progressive and moderate.Despite desire at both side for peace,I don,t see it happening any time soon due to some thorny issues specially Kashmir.Any government in India irrespective of its political affiliation can not afford to make any compromise on the stated position on Kashmir.Same is true with Pakistan.
