GHALLANAI:

A resident of Takht Bhai, Mardan who was kidnapped by unidentified men nine months ago was rescued by khasadars in Safi, Mohmand Agency, Assistant Political Agent Jamshed Khan told the media at his office on Thursday.

Khan said Muhammad Ali was being moved from Bajaur Agency to Safi on Wednesday. When the kidnappers reached Sando Khel, they threw Ali out of their car and fled for fear of being arrested by khasadars who have set up checkpoints in the area. Ali was then taken into custody by the khasadars and later handed over to his relatives.

Meanwhile, a tribal peace committee volunteer, Muhammad Ismail of Dabar Mamond, Bajaur Agency, was gunned down by unidentified men in Tangi Gharigal on Wednesday night.

Targeted attacks on security forces and peace committee members have recently increased in the area, raising concern of lawlessness in Bajaur Agency.
