ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif reiterated his stance of taking development to a next level given he was allowed to complete his tenure.

“Destiny of our country will change in next four years, if the developmental activities continue with the same pace,” he said on Wednesday while laying the foundation stone for the construction of Chakwal-Sohawa and Chakwal-Mandra road projects at Dhudyal near Chakwal.

Addressing the gathering, Nawaz said that the incumbent government has initiated 10 coal power projects in Gadani, two coal power projects in Port Qasim, four power plants in different locations of Punjab, 10 coal power projects in Thar, Dasu Dam, Diamer Dam and Civil Nuclear power project in Karachi.

The premier maintained that they “are striving for long term as well as short term coal, hydel and nuclear power projects so that cheap and abundant electricity is available to people in next few years”.

He added that the energy shortfall could not be overcome overnight but the government has taken up the herculean task on a war footing.

Nawaz said that his government has initiated a couple of motorways and new Islamabad-Muzaffarabad railway track. “Such are the steps taken by our government to put back Pakistan on the road to progress that the multilateral donors have started putting their trust in Pakistan’s economy”.

Citing the international rating agency Moody’s assessment for Pakistan, he said the country’s economy was positive and had better economic standings. Moody’s has changed Pakistan’s foreign exchange rating from negative to stable though the country has yet to achieve an overall positive outlook.

Law and order

He said that the Pakistan Army and the government are at war with terrorism. “We want to establish peace in the country,” the PM reaffirmed. He said that the government is committed to crime control across Pakistan and particularly in Karachi, such that people can freely move about even at midnight.

PM Nawaz said that he would never forget the hospitality of the people of Takla Gang during the election campaign.
