LAHORE:

Former principal of Punjab University’s College for Art and Design (CAD) Maliha Azami Aga on Wednesday said an MPhil programme was started at the college just for teachers awaiting promotions.

Talking to the media at the Lahore Press Club, Aga said she was removed when she objected to the programme.

She said the MPhil programme was being run in violation of the Higher Education Commission’s rules.

“The MPhil programme was launched just to facilitate teachers who have been unable to get their promotions,” she said. She said some CAD staff members were threatening her for criticising the MPhil programme. “CAD is filled with the teachers who have no ethics. Some teachers, who are backed by PU vice chancellor, are threatening me,” she said.

Reacting to the allegations, the PU spokesman said the former CAD principal had taken the matter of her removal to court. “She should not have held a press conference because the matter is sub judice,” he said.

He said the PU administration had formed an impartial inquiry committee to probe the allegations against the former principal.

“Ms Aga praised the vice chancellor in front of the court. Now her allegations against him are a big surprise for us,” he said.

The spokesman said the vice chancellor had summoned the staff member accused of threatening Ms Aga, but he had denied her claims.
