Committee looks into Abbottabad riots

Express April 17, 2010

ABBOTABAD: The DCO Abbottabad told the Senate's Standing Committee on Interior on Saturday that four people were killed during protests against the renaming of NWFP.

He said two of the protestors died from electric shock while uprooting an advertising hoarding. DCO Zaheer-ul-Islam denied reports about the loss of nine lives in clashes between the protestors and the police.

Earlier, ANP leader Haji Adeel told the committee that the provincial government has set up a judicial commission to investigate the killings.

"I saw gunmen who were send by PML-Q. They were in a house near our institute (COMSAT)." "Peaceful Protest" is the right of every citizen but torching other properties and encouraging innocents to blood their hands for political goals could not be justified. The recent riots where Pathans were targeted showed that Pathans are even not safe in their own province which would prevail hater against Hindko speaking and Pubjabis. I would like to ask simple question from those causing disturbance in Hazara region, Why Chitralis do not protest against the name of NWFP? Why so-called educated people like you became scapegoat? You could justify protest against the naming but how can you justify the torture you had given to those students who were there for study purpose only.
