The FBR informed Qadri that he must respond within seven days or else he would face penalty proceedings under section 182 of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001.
Other members of Board of Directors (BoD) and office bearers of Idara Minhajul Quran (IMQ) also requested for a one-month extension. However, FBR has turned down their applications.
On the other hand, it has prepared a case against the PAT chief and other members and affiliates of the IMQ for evading taxes worth Rs770 million.
FBR has also issued second notices to Tahirul Qadri and other members and affiliates on the charge of concealing assets.
FBR sources revealed that their wealth statements do not show all the assets, transactions and accounts which have been recently traced.
According to the copies of the notices available to The Express Tribune, FBR requested them to furnish the wealth statement and give details of their assets and liabilities between June 2009 and June 2013. FBR also asked for details of the assets and liabilities of their spouses, children and other dependents. Furthermore, the FBR notices reveal that any assets that have been transferred and total expenditure also need to be submitted. The deadline for submission was July 15.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Dr Tahirul Qadri and other members and affiliates of Minhajul Quran did not appear before the competent authority on July 15. The FBR decided to take matters in their own hands and impose taxes along with a penalty.
Director foreign affairs of Minhajul Quran and principal secretary to the PAT chief Muhammad Mustafa told The Express Tribune that the FBR issued five separate notices to each person demanding wealth statements despite the fact that Dr Tahirul Qadri and Minhajul Quran had provided wealth statements up until June 30. He added that these notices are a good example of political victimization. They reveal how the government misuses state institutions like FBR, FIA and the police to serve its own end, he said.

Not quadriceps fan at all ..He is a foreign national FBR have no business in gathering evidences re what his assets are..only his assets in pak
What a Farce, FBR should be tried for corruption! So swift in action against Qadri while the likes of Zardari & Nawaz roam around the country unquestioned! what a joke of institutions funded by public money to protect the wealth of the country... instead being used against anti-government movements.
@Aphtab: Revolution?...by a foreigner who gave up this country's citizenship and residence for the Queen? really? he only believes in becoming noticeable and feel important and there are several thousand fools to let him do that..Qadri....get out of my country and go back to yours and bow to your queen...you dont belong here...stop playing with the lives of these poor people of my country
@Urban Legend: Thanks for your comment. I would like to give you some insight about my previous comment. I usually limit my comment according to the news item. In this case, comment was written about Mr Qadri, because news was about him and not about any other politicians. I have been living in the west for more than 35 yrs and I have learnt lot of good things here. One of the basic question which is asked or checked about any politician is about his FINANCES. He can not say that check other candidates first and then come back to me. I have no problem in checking of other politicians. I am limiting my comment according to the news item. If tax dept comes to audit your finances, you can not say, check my neighbor first.
In your comment, you are talking about killing of 14 workers. But the news item is about FBR asking about financial issues. These are totally two different items. So please limit yourself according to the news item. Thanks for reading my counter comment.
If Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri is a tax evader, then I ask where have the authorities/institutions including FBR been all that time? Do they investigate a person/organisation is they seem as a threat to the government? If he is a tax evader, then I see this another failure of the institutions as they didn't realise this before. Common sense tells me that FBR is being misused for the sake of saving the government.
Dr Tahir ul Qadri has raised his voice against the Gov so they are countering it by these dirty tactics. If he is hiding anything then it should be shown on the TV channels... Dr Tahir ul Qadri has said he has never missed paying his tax returns...
FBR should be focusing on those who are / have been in power and have access to National funds..... This Gov is not able to justify their actions to they have dropped to such dirty tactics,
They Committed State Terrorism on 17th June in Lahore and then tried to cover it up by showing them selves as victums... but the media had already exposed them.
1st we have seen example of state terrorism and now political victimization this government using national Institutions to save their government but they will never get anything against TuQ. why we are sleeping when we'll ask these crooks about their business and wealth abroad?
Government has destroyed all institutes. PMLN used police to killed innocents in Model Town now using FBR to further politicall victimize leadership of PAT And MUQ. These tactics will not work and it will further esclat revolution.
Shame on FBR, shame on PML(N), Guloo Butt Badmash Government's days are now numbered this is for sure.
@SHB: You are another typical Pakistani who considers everyone guilty unless his innocence is proven. Pity on the mindset that the intention of these notices is well known and yet, we are pointing finger on PAT and not the Khadim e Ala who holds Interior Ministry and is directly responsible for murder of 14 workers. Earlier it was through one state agency, the police, and now its another, the FBR!
I am so happy to know that FBR is sending notices to such tax evaders. But list can't have PAT leaders only, come on! Don't tell me all the money these parliamentarians have is white. Issue notices to all and collect taxes from everybody.
Clear example of State Terrorism!
Mr Qadri must make public his last ten yrs tax returns. Including his assets in foreign countries. That should be the first step. To me he is financially corrupt unless proven otherwise.
What polticle victimization are you a politician?-No you are not.You are tax evaders. Now give them good excuse that since you people don't believe in this system there is no logic in paying tax to this riasat.Let us see how this system react.
770 million taxes my God what will be the income of this mullah and still he insist others to bring back ill gotten money from abroad. Isn't it an open discrimination.
Where was FBR for all these years. It took a threat of revolution to wake them up.
And here, ladies and gentlemen, is one of the most patriotic ppl of our country who left everything in Canada for the well being and prosperity of Pakistan.
