Preventive detention: ATC sends MQM activist to jail

The Pakistan Rangers informed an anti-terrorism court (ATC) about 90-day preventive detention of a political activist

KARACHI: The Pakistan Rangers informed an anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday about a 90-day preventive detention of a political activist to interrogate him for his alleged involvement in targeted killings and extortion. The Rangers personnel along with their prosecutor produced the suspect, Haider Baig, said to be an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, before the ATC-III, who was hearing the case. They informed the court that the suspect was picked up on July 13 during the ongoing targeted operation in New Karachi and they have ‘credible information’ about his involvement in the incidents of targeted killing and other terrorism-related activities. They further said that the suspect was placed under preventive detention for three months under section 11EEEE (1) of Anti-terrorism Act, 1997, for further questioning and he was being shifted to a special detention centre setup at Central Prison, Karachi.
