SWABI/ PESHAWAR:

Police conducted a search operation against criminals in Mattani, Mathra, Chamkani and Urmar areas of Peshawar district on Saturday and arrested 62 suspects.

According to a police official, the men included 11 proclaimed offenders wanted by the police in a number of murder and attempted murder cases.

“Four AK-47s, 13 pistols, five rifles and 229 cartridges were seized from the proclaimed offenders,” the police official told The Express Tribune. “Rural SP Shakir Bangash supervised the operation in areas which fall under Mattani, Mathra, Chamkani and Urmar police stations.”

He said police decided to conduct the search after a police mobile came under attack on Thursday. Unidentified men opened fire at a police vehicle in Chamkani, killing two officials. Police managed to shoot one of the gunmen dead in retaliatory fire.

“Policemen from the four police stations participated in the operation,” said the official.

The arrested men have been sent to the relevant police stations for interrogation and will be released if found innocent.
