An officer and two soldiers were killed in the attack, while two other soldiers were critically injured when the Bajaur Scouts vehicle they were in came under attack.
"A strong protest has been lodged with the Afghan side in Islamabad and Kabul," a foreign office press release said. "It has been reiterated that Afghanistan should eliminate the terrorist sanctuaries and not allow its territory to be used against Pakistan."
Afghanistan's cooperation in eliminating militants and their hideouts is essential for the success of Pakistan's efforts to eliminate terrorism from its grounds.
It is believed that the attacks were a retaliation to the ongoing military offensive launched against militants by the Pakistan Army in North Waziristan agency of Federally Administered Tribal Areas.
Earlier, ministers and officials from Pakistan and Afghanistan have met to discuss cross-border cooperation to enhance security ties and work to help Pakistan in its counter-terrorism endeavours.

Great reply by Pakistan. I am Pashtoon from border area and I'm tired of these people killing Pashtoons whether in Pakistan or Afghanistan.
Indians, stay out of Pakistan, Afghan, Muslim, or Pashtoon affairs. We know how much you hate us.
@Hamood: I think you don't understand what obsession means. We have a problem in the region roots of which are traced to non-state actors groomed by Pak establishment for fomenting trouble in Kashmir, Aghanistan and rest of the world. This concerns us all as we are affected directly. The strategic assets and strategic depth needs to be forgotten as it has brought more harm to Pakistan. The problem is that despite it's tail on fire Pakistan still believes in Good & Bad Taliban with a hope that one day Good Taliban may come handy as strategic asset.
@Asad:
Its not an obsession dont flatter yourself. No one really cares about you or your country. I visit this site because I love to laugh at the hideous comments you guys post. Its really entertaining.
@Hamood:
So you think your PAF should fly across the border and bomb Afghanistan??? Why doesnt your gov accept this when the U.S. does this via drones? Your gov cries out that its a violation of their sovereignty... I suggest you think before you post comments.
What goes round ... comes around ...
@Shuaib: international affairs don't work the way you think. What happens if India diverts water of Indus, Jehlum and Chennab? No Sir, every country has obligations to fullfill. There is a saying that necessity is the mother of invention. That is the reason that Chahbahar port development is underway and road to connect to Afghanistan with it thus bypassing Pakistan. It is possible that Pakistan may lose it's geographical importance in course of time.
@Ahsan: Did Pakistan seal it's borders for Haqqanis or other militants?
@Asad, I agree with you 100%. Most Indians are obsessed with Pakistan and they have nothing better to do in their lives. I hope ET publishes this because most of my comments about this have never seen the light of the day.
I am sorry but this women looks like a Joker now. Useless foreign office policies just to show that it exist in Pakistan. Drone strikes are done with Army consultation but this FO make fool of itself and others.
We have to eliminate terrorists from attacking as well. We all know we can't defeat India using good old wAys. Please military if your listening let's stop this madness and start trading/business let the Kashmiri decide after a decade or so whom they want to stick around with India, Pakistan or independent.
I appeal to my Pakistani brothers not to fall for this game. Let there be peace first only then will world listen to us.
The word condemn is used by this govt so often that it has lost all its meaning and value. It's become a routine. They keep condemning and do nothing.
i cannot believe the height of obsession Indians have about Pakistan.. they just cannot keep themselves from commenting on any article on Pakistani websites.. publish an article in any time of the day or night, and they are always the first to comment.. and then they wonder why Pakistanis hate them.. i would not even say 'get a life' because i dont think they can do it.. absolutely pathetic , not to mention many of them need to see a psychiatrist
ET, please publish, there is nothing abusive in my comment
Afghanistan is not in control of its territory, how can they stop any attacks? The only solution is to send PAF jets across the border to bomb the terrorists and take care of our own business.
Most of Afghanistan's imports come through Pakistan, we could choke it if they don't stop fooling around and even the US would end up supporting Pakistan because the only other route is through Iran, does the US want to strengthen Israel's arch nemisis? Pakistan play your cards right. Also start charging a transit fee like the Afghans charge us. Why should we give a concession when they wouldn't give us one?
Why always only 'condemnation'? Why not a retaliation as well? Afghanistan can never be Pakistan's sincere friend at least by looking at the way they have been behaving and opposing us since Allah knows when. Why didn't they seal border areas so that no one could escape i.e Mullah Fazlullah?
...Afghanistan’s cooperation in eliminating militants and their hideouts is essential for the success of Pakistan’s efforts to eliminate terrorism from its grounds.... I think i have heard similar statement many times before..... Oh yah, i remember.. ...Pakistan’s cooperation in eliminating militants and their hideouts is essential for the success of NATOS’s efforts to eliminate terrorism from its grounds..
The value of an Ordinary Soldier is as important as an Army Officer. I dont know every news outlet is just showing the picture of the Officer only.? Why a soldier's life is not that important compared to an Army Officer?. Kindly show us the pictures of the two soldiers who died there as well.
As they say what goes around comes around. We treated Afghanistan as our colony and tried to control it through sponsoring terrorists.. we chose to be warriors, militaristic mindset intervening in nighbhouring countries. And they want to pay back the same coin.
We still have a choice to become peaceful and not indulge in cross border militancy.
After two decades tables have shifted. India used to complain about militants being pushed into Kashmir valley and Pakistan denying it. Now it is Pakistan complaining about infiltration from Afghanistan. Non-state actors?
Afghanistan’s cooperation in eliminating militants and their hideouts is essential for the success of Pakistan’s efforts to eliminate terrorism from its grounds. . If cooperation with Afghanistan was "essential" then this operation was doomed from the beginning. Your providing sanctuary, weapons, training, and intelligence for the Haqqani for the past 12+ years all but doomed any chance of real cooperation. Further - you have one of the largest armies on the planet yet your deployed less than 5% of the available manpower on what's suppose to be a critical offense .. and you made no attempt to cutoff the "terrorist" from retreating into Afghanistan. Deja Vu .. the 09 offensive all over again - moving is different than defeating an enemy. Why not just declare victory and call it a day?
