Check And Control: ‘Plan families for progress’

FAISALABAD: Begum Khalida Mansoor, a lawmaker, on Friday said family planning was essential for progress and prosperity. She was the chief guest at a seminar organised to underscore the importance of family planning on the World Population Day by the Population Welfare Department. District Coordination Officer (DCO) Noorul Amin Mengal presided over the function. Begum Mansoor explained the objectives of the World Population Day and said that a balance between population and resources has to be maintained. She said that uninhibited population growth had furthered poverty, unemployment and other social hazards in Pakistan. The lawmaker said that family planning was necessary for progress and prosperity. The DCO said that the message of family planning needed to be popularised. He urged the Population Welfare Department to improve its services. District Officer Dr Farkhanda Abbas briefed the audience about the performance and the activities of the Population Welfare Department. She urged clerics to collaborate with the department across the religious spectrum to further family planning. A large number of people attended the seminar.
