Treason trial: Courts decide cases based on merit, says Akram Sheikh
The direction of any case is for the court to decide depending on the merits, public prosecutor Akram Sheikh said in response to a story published in The Express Tribune.
Sheikh, who represents the government in the treason case against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf said that his team had completed the documentary evidence and that investigating officers are to be examined.
Subsequently, he said that Musharraf was required to appear before the court to record his statement.
Sheikh denied all insinuations, including rumours that he has family ties with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and that the prosecution plans to take the case to its bitter end.
Issuing a cautious warning, he said that the legal fraternity and media should refrain from commenting on the trial as the matter was sub judice.

The lawyers movement and Iftikhar Chaudhry are not so sacred as they were in past. Moreover the verdict of Supreme Court on 31 July is also questioned in the field of law that how can Supreme Court exercise judicial review over the Presidential right to proclaim emergency because according to Article 232(6) no Court can question the validity of proclamation of emergency whenever made by the President. The Supreme Court write in its decision that they can take into account the circumstances which leads the nation towards emergency. It means they indirectly questioned the validity of proclamation of emergency that is not allowed by the Constitution.
Why F.I.A report did not mention the statement of Shaukat Aziz which he gave in the press conference and in which he declared that emergency was result of consultation?
When Shujjat Hussain claimed that emergency was result of consultation then why Court is hesitating to summon him?

Why the statement of Shaukat Aziz is not given by the court. If he is not in country, not a big issue. A commission can record his statement.
