ISLAMABAD:

Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has given the go-ahead to the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) to prepare formalities to start work on the capital’s first women university.

Iqbal has written a letter to CADD to submit the PC-1 for the project to the planning commission within a week.

An amount of Rs80 million has already been allocated in the current budget and the government also plans to grant university status to Islamabad Model College for Girls F-7/2.

CADD spokesperson Rafique Tahir said that a sub-committee was also working with the Higher Education Commission on the relevant university act.

Tahir said that the sub-committee consists of members from the HEC, CADD and the college principal.

“After approval from CADD, the act will be tabled in parliament,” he said, adding that they were planning to have faculties of natural sciences, social sciences, computer and management sciences, and home economics in the proposed university.

He was hopeful that the university will start functioning in December.
