Expensive protection: Cars, dogs for PM House challenged

A petition challenged the acquisition of bullet-proof cars and sniffer dogs for the Prime Minister’s House security.

LAHORE: A petition filed in Lahore High Court challenged the acquisition of bullet-proof cars and sniffer dogs for the Prime Minister’s House security. In his petition, Advocate Feroze Gillani said Rs120 million had been spent on bullet-proof cars and Rs2.4 million on the dogs. He said a huge sum of money was being spent to renovate the PM House. The petitioner said the use of public exchequer for rulers’ luxury was not permissible in Islam. He said the economy was in recession and the rulers were splurging on luxuries. He requested the court to declare the decision to purchase the cars and sniffer dogs for the Prime Minister’s House unlawful.
