Dr Aamir urges govt to ensure Dr Aafia’s release
Says Dr Aafia Siddiqui is the daughter of the nation.

On the eighth day of Express’s live Ramazan transmission – Pakistan Ramazan – Dr Aamir Liaqat Hussain appealed to the president and prime minister of the country to fulfill their promise and bring Dr Aafia Siddiqui back to Pakistan.
“Dr Aafia is not an individual, she is the daughter of the nation and the government should fulfill its promises and make every effort to bring her back,” he said.
Earlier Dr Aamir was talking to Dr Aafia’s sister Dr Fauzia Siddiqui, who had been invited along with Dr Aafia’s children as special guests to take part in Pakistan’s biggest Ramazan transmission.
Talking to the famous broadcaster, Dr Fauzia revealed that the US government was willing to free Dr Aafia and had given the option of her serving the remaining term of her punishment in Pakistan but the government was not showing interest.
“In this connection, the US administration had prepared all the relevant documents, Pakistan’s law minister had drafted a memorandum, which had been signed by Aafia but then the government backed out due to some unknown reasons,” she said.
Showing documentary evidences, Dr Fuozia said the present government had collected sympathies and votes in the name of Dr Aafia and had promised that they would ensure her freedom after coming to power.
Dr Aamir also talked to Dr Aafia’s kids – Ahmed and Maryam – who told him how they had missed their mother on every Eid for the last twelve years. At the occasion, Dr Fauzia thanked Dr Aamir for highlighting the issue through his show.
On the eight day of this grand transmission, a child was reunited with his family, which had been called by Dr Aamir from Multan and was presented with gifts.
In the segment ‘Rahay Naiki’, deserving families continued to receive monetary support. In the Monday’s show money was provided for the treatment of 13-year-old boy, Shahid, whose respiratory cord was destroyed in an accident.
Dr Aamir also announced to bear the expenses of the treatment of a hepatitis patient Zakir Hussain, who will be provided help through Mehmooda Sultana Foundation. The anchor also announced to provide a pushcart to one of Zakir’s family members and assured that his children’s education will also be taken care of. At this occasion, other people also announced to donate Rs0.6 million in charity.
As usual the show included an interesting ‘Aalim On Air’ session in which religious scholars from all the major schools of thought gave answers to the audience’s queries.
Family wins car in ‘Pakistan Ghar’
On Monday, an increasing number of guests took part in the interesting quiz, ‘Pakistan Ghar’, in which a mother and daughter won a car after a sensational competition.
This was the second car given away during the show, which is becoming more popular with each passing day.
