Commercial hub: Gwadar Port, the key to landlocked areas

The minister said that last year, TCP imported 28 ships of urea of which 17 were offloaded at the Gawadar Port.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Commerce Engineer Khurram Dastgir has said that areas of China, land-locked Central Asia and Afghanistan will find Gwadar Port as their prime trading harbor, making Pakistan an important commercial hub in the region. Chairing the quarterly review meeting about the performance of Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP), the minister said that there are very few instances in the world where such a vast region and population of land-locked countries will be facilitated by the construction and development of a trade corridor and a port. He said the Commerce Ministry was providing support to Gwadar Port to sustain its operations as 60% of the ships bring imported urea anchored at the port. The minister said that last year, TCP – an attached organisation of the commerce ministry– imported 28 ships of urea of which 17 were offloaded at the Gawadar Port. This is providing crucial business to the port and to the people of Balochistan.
