Excellence: Mamnoon calls for focussing on research

The president assured all out support and patronage to the institute in its educational pursuits.

President Mamnoon Hussain on Monday called upon academic institutes to produce more research in all fields to set a standard of excellence in education.


The president expressed these views after a presentation given to him by the management of Ghulam Ishaq Khan (GIK) Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology here at Aiwan-i-Sadr.

The presentation was attended by Science and Technology Minister Zahid Hamid, Science and Technology Secretary Kamran Ali Qureshi, Higher Education Commission Chairman Prof Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, GIKI President Engr Shamsul Mulk and other senior officials.

The president was informed that the annual registration of students at GIKI had increased from about 280 in 2008 to 420 at present, while over 3,800 students had so far graduated from the GIKI including about 280 masters graduates and 54 PhDs.

The president was informed that the institute strived to attract faculty of outstanding talent and ability to provide the students a supporting and enabling environment.

The president was informed that the GIKI team will represent Pakistan at the Microsoft Imagine Cup in Seattle, USA. Mamnoon emphasised the need for greater collaboration between GIKI and the industry to promote research, job creation and preparing the youth to efficiently meet the demands of the market. He also urged for developing and strengthening linkages with reputed international universities so as to benefit from the global research, experience and expertise especially in the field of science and technology.

The president assured all out support and patronage to the institute in its educational pursuits.

The president’s said the government will invest more in the education sector to put the country on the path for progress and prosperity.
