Zarb-e-Azb: 40% of Miramshah cleared, say officials

As the army recovered a huge cache of improvised explosive devices (IED) on Friday, official sources said around 40% of Miramshah, the administrative headquarters of North Waziristan Agency, has been cleared of terrorists.
Ready-to-detonate IEDs were recovered from four interlinked houses in Miramshah, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement. A soldier, on the other hand, lost his life to an IED blast in the same area, the statement added.
At the same time, the ISPR said Operation Zarb-e-Azb was ‘progressing successfully’. The military is expected to face stiff resistance once the operation moves further against the hardcore militants of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its affiliates.
Since the ground offensive was launched, at least 20 soldiers have lost their lives while around 380 terrorists have been killed during the operation.
A military official said the security forces continued to lay a cordon around the terrorist hideouts in North Waziristan. The official added that since civilian population has already left the troubled region, one could safely assume that those left behind were terrorists.
