Lights out: Residents of Kabal tehsil protest against PESCO, govt

Say transformers broke down 12 days back but are yet to be repaired.

Thousands of residents from various areas of Kabal tehsil protested against malfunctioning transformers on Friday.

Demonstrators marched from Koza Bandai village to Kanju Chowk chanting slogans against Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) and the provincial government for failing to address their grievances.

They said the Koza Bandai village transformer broke down 12 days ago but despite repeated complaints neither Pesco nor the government paid any heed.

“We have been having Sehri and Iftari in darkness since there has been no electricity since the past 12 days, that too in such hot weather,” complained Zahoor Khan, a local.

Similarly, the transformer of Kanju Chowk area is also out-of-order and has not been fixed yet. While protesting, residents of Kanju said local authorities and politicians are not paying attention to their problems.

Meanwhile, residents of Dhaira area in Khawaza Khela tehsil also came out on the streets to protest against dysfunctional electricity transformers and criticised both the provincial and federal governments.
