Dr Arsalan faxed his resignation to Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, who has appointed him as the BIB vice chairman on June 21.
He cited opposition from certain politicians as his reason for resigning.
The appointment met with criticism and controversy since Dr Iftikhar was implicated in a financial impropriety case in 2012. His father, the chief justice, had taken a suo moto notice on media reports that had alleged that Dr Arsalan had received between Rs300 million and Rs400 million from property tycoon Malik Riaz to influence judicial proceedings.
“I don’t think that Dr Baloch consulted Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on the appointment,” the Balochistan government’s spokesperson Jan Buledi told The Express Tribune.
Setting aside the notion that Dr Arsalan was accommodated on the recommendation of his father, he said, “It was the chief minister’s own initiative.”
Meanwhile, Dr Malik defended his decision to appoint Dr Arsalan, justifying the appointment before opposition legislatures who had raised their objections during the Balochistan assembly session.
The Express Tribune had earlier reported Dr Arsalan’s role, among other things, to bring investors to Reko Diq – a high-profile but controversial gold-mining project that his father Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had taken up in a suo moto case when he was the chief justice.
Dr Arsalan was assigned to bring in foreign and local investment in the mineral sector, including Reko Diq gold & copper mines project, a highly placed official from Quetta told The Express Tribune.

@kk: Arsalan asked Malik for several millions to make his father change the court ruling & took the money over seas for "investment"? You got it cleared now? Malik is simple business man for profit not public leader.
At least he has the moral courage to resign unlike the plethora of unqualified generals heading technical organizations and universities like POF, UET,HIT ...
President Musharraf stands vindicated.
Arsalan Iftikhar was not the right choice ,i agree but no body is looking at malik raiz who heavily invested on arsalan for the reason best known to him .when this didn't work his paid writers in media started blamming ex cheif justice and his son
Dr. Malik lost his credibIility by appointing Arsalan as Vice Chairman, BOI, Balochistan. Discretionary powers of PM & CMs be abolished to appoint high officials to stop corruption. Instead a Parliamentary Committee be constituted to select the executives.
@Bagar Billa:
What are you talking about? What services to Baluch people? Loot maar? He is a Punjabi, taking advantage of Baluchistan domicile. Which Baluchi has the surname Chaudhary? His father is Chaudhary Iftikhar which you have not bothered to notice in your zeal to support this questionable character. Baluchis are better off without him.
For this to happen in Pakistan.......is, if nothing else, quite surprising and pleasantly so.
Poor chap fell to his father's desire for projecting good image in the media. Iftikhar Ch sb it is not possible to be popular and crook at the same time for ever. after sometime you have to chose one of them.
it was not Baluchistan appointee but it was recommended by federal govt
Shame on Dr Malik
yes offcourse@Jibran:
This guy got some morality indeed! Others should learn something from him.... #RanaSanaUllah
Dr Arsalan was the most appropriate choice for this position and it is sad that people did not make use of his abilities to bring investment into the province. Firstly, he is a true son of the soil of Baluchistan and have rendered many sacrifices for the Baluch people. Secondly, he is an educated doctor and has no blemish on his spotless career. Thirdly, he is son of an honorable Chief Justice who has rendered very valuable service to the present government. Fourthly, he is astute and capable businessman who has managed many an astounding feats and the province could have benefited from his remarkable achievements. This is a big loss for the people of Baluchistan in particular and Pakistan in general.
@M Awais:
Why? It’s not as if he was being honourable and accepted his corruption which everyone already knows about. It’s the pressure by the rest of us that worked. We should admire ourselves, the people power.
Well well well... it appears he at least has more self-respect than Najam Sethi!
Thank you PTI for making it happen!
At least we should admire his decision. Whatever he is, but we should acknowledge that he has taken praiseworthy decision.
@Umer: "Because of opposition? Let’s keep this opposition against all corruption alive. When people stand together they can get rid of these corrupt goons."
Who is next in line? Perhaps democracy is taking roots.
Good Decision, finally the sane heads prevails.
Now, God Speed with H4 Project Balochistan Govt. You Should have some thing in you hands before any "Gora" can offer you Daff prices of your resources.
remember slow & steady wins the race.
regards,
Because of opposition? Let's keep this opposition against all corruption alive. When people stand together they can get rid of these corrupt goons.
Still blaming others.... Opposition from some politicians! Not acknowledging that he's unfit for the job.
Good riddance.
