Model Town clashes: PAT supporters not cooperating, says JIT

LAHORE: A joint investigation team probing the Model Town clashes has said that Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) supporters are not cooperating with them, Express News reported on Thursday.

"There are some problems in the investigation," said a member of the joint investigation team, set up by a judicial commission which is investigating the June 17 clashes between PAT workers and the police that left 14 PAT supporters dead.

Justice Ali Baqar Najfi, heading the commission, asked the investigation team to keep trying to cooperate with the victims of the clashes and ask them to appear before the tribunal.

The team has said that they would submit a report to the commission on July 9.

Four witnesses, who were passers-by during the clash, appeared before the tribunal today and recorded their statements, saying that they were crossing the Minhajul Quran secretariat when the police were fired upon from inside the building.

The additional inspector general and joint investigation team will submit reports to the commission tomorrow. Further proceedings have also been postponed till tomorrow.

Well of-course there are problems. I presume that the fire was opened from both sides. There is something fishy about the whole incident. A speculation tells that ISI was involved in pinpointing armed people inside and that is why police raided heavily. But nevertheless, police cannot open fire on civilians. Rubber bullets are much more useful in such scenarios. Lets hope for the best
