ISLAMABAD: A Foreign Office official has disclosed that an Afghan military delegation will be arriving in Pakistan tomorrow (Thursday) to discuss security-related issues with their Pakistani counterparts.

At a media briefing in Islamabad, the official said that the meeting is taking place to allay concerns of both sides. The briefing was held as a follow up on Afghanistan’s National Security Adviser Dr Rangin Dadfar Spanta’s visit to Pakistan.

It was also disclosed that the Afghan and Pakistani officials would visit the Pak-Afghan border to assess the situation.

Spanta’s visit to Pakistan followed PM Nawaz’s special envoy Mehmood Khan Achakzai’s visit to in Kabul earlier this month. During Achakzai’s visit, he had sought Kabul’s cooperation to tighten security along the border in order to stop militants from fleeing and entering Afghanistan.

Afghanistan and Pakistan have been concerned with the cross border attacks for quite a while now. The terrorists from both sides of the border have been diligently working to destabilize the region. At the same time, our nations have come too far and worked too hard to let the advantage shift in our common enemies favor. We have always encouraged shared cooperation and coordination between the regional partners and continue to do so. These meetings allow both nations to address any shared concerns and work together for the betterment of the region. The U.S., Pakistan and Afghanistan remain committed to restoring peace in the region, and it is simply important for our nations to maintain a healthy working relationship for the sake of achieving our common objectives in the region.
