RAWALPINDI:

The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) has urged the government to devise proper mechanism to check price hike during Ramazan.

“The government should take practical steps to check the sky-rocketing prices of everyday use items. The trend has added to the miseries of the common man,” RCCI Senior Vice President Malik Shahid Salim said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

He said that the government should ensure smooth supply of edibles in the special bazaars set up with an aim to check profiteering in the open market.

Salim appealed to traders to not overcharge the consumers during the holy month.

He asked the government to initiate operation against profiteers and hoarders and bring down prices of essential commodities to a reasonable level. He assured that the RCCI will assist the government against hoarders and profiteers.

He also demanded steps to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the masses during Ramazan, especially at sehri and iftar hours.

Lauding the Ramazan Bazaars set up by the district authorities, the RCCI vice-president said the government should ensure quality and check prices at the bazaars.
