Enforcing the law: Police arrest target killer, three extortionists

Arrests were disclosed during a press conference held at the SIU office by the department’s chief, SP Farooq Awan.

A suspected member of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi was arrested during a police encounter in Orangi Town.


The accused, identified as Makhroon Syed, alias Saiful Islam, was arrested by officials of the counter-terrorism unit. Two hand grenades were seized from his possession. CTU officials said that the accused was involved in over nine cases of target killings, including the murder of a police sub-inspector. “Most of his targets were sectarian killings.

He is also an expert in making motorcycle-borne improvised explosive devices (MBIEV),” said the CTU chief Raja Omar Khattab. Separately, Special Investigation Unit claim to have apprehended three suspects allegedly involved in various cases of extortion.

Their arrests were disclosed during a press conference held at the SIU office by the department’s chief, SP Farooq Awan. He said that the SIU police had conducted a raid near NIPA Chowrangi in Gulshan-e-Iqbal from where they had arrested the suspects, adding that weapons were also seized from their possession.
