KARACHI: As the country starts to embrace newly-introduced mobile broadband technology, the telecom sector’s regulator is upgrading technology as well as skills of its officers – a move aimed at monitoring the quality of service (QoS) parameters for third-generation (3G) and 4G mobile services.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) concluded a two-day training programme in collaboration with NEMO Anite, a Finnish company, at the PTA headquarters in Islamabad on Friday, a press release said.

“The aim of this training was to impart knowledge and skills to PTA officials so that they can effectively monitor the quality of service (QoS) parameters in 3G and 4G environment.”

It said the PTA had procured NEMO outdoor equipment to assess QoS of GSM mobile networks in 2006. Now, Anite has provided an upgrade of its NEMO QoS monitoring platform to the PTA for 3G and 4G.

NEMO Invex – Tool Model – enables outdoor drive test measurements and benchmarking to ensure QoS of cellular networks. Anite has an established position in mobile benchmarking, drive test measurement and optimisation solutions for perfecting the air interface of wireless networks, it said.

Saybi, the local partner of Anite, also supported the training, with the aim of imparting the 3G/4G QoS knowledge and hands-on experience of NEMO Invex 7.0.

“This solution will enable the PTA to monitor licensed QoS key performance indicators of 3G/4G networks in the country to ensure that quality standards are met and users get the services at anticipated quality standards,” said PTA Chairman Dr Ismail Shah.

Compliment chair regulatory authority for the onus to QOS which is the faith of two third the population of Pakistan being the mobile phone subscriber, relying, trust and faith in the regulator to the delivery of the service. As the QOS necessiates support for the new generation of handsets and network support which will not be complete if the regulator do not have in stock the Nemo Outdoor 7.3.1 which is the ideal tool to evaluate the 4G/LTE. The stake holder i.e., the Mobile Operators are service providers based on the provisioning of QOS offered by the PTA to visitors in Pakistan as the country can possibly the best opportunities for doing business and investment, tourism in Pakistan. This would necessiate Nemo Outdoor 7.3.1 With the QOS offered to service providers, and broadband users, the issues of privacy are also important to the consumer about the safety, security, of the privacy. Would there be any statement from the authority on this, and the transparency of the monitoring of the phone, and broadband from the Governmental authorities, and the Chinese companies which had bad names in major matured markets in the world. The prevention of crime, cyber crime, by the enforcement agencies regulatory authority, and other agency should be known to the public which would like to transact e-Commerce, funds transfer, and the resulting tax which Government will earn by electronic tax deduction of Federal, and Provincial taxes which would help Pakistan bail out of IMF with this step only, which is successfully used in the EU member administrations. Is there any initiative to stop street crimes by mobile Broadband.
