ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday ordered Rawalpindi’s top police official to bring back a lawyer from Malaysia who allegedly raped his niece.

Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui directed City Police Officer (CPO) Humayun Bashir Tarar to make arrangements for extradition of the Fateh Jang-based lawyer in three days so that legal action could be taken against him.

The lawyer TM* is facing charges of raping his niece MJ*, an MBBS student, along with an accomplice ABH*.

The New Town police had registered a report (FIR) against the prime suspect and his accomplice on September 30, 2013.

The victim, a resident of Gujranwala, was staying with her aunt, who is also a lawyer and spouse of the prime suspect.

According to the FIR, the suspect also recorded the crime on camera to blackmail the victim and restrain her from reporting the crime.

The suspect was arrested by the police but he obtained protective bail from the Peshawar High Court and fled the country.

The victim’s mother petitioned the IHC last month to issue arrest warrants for the suspect.

An official of The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had earlier told the court that the agency had issued red warrants for the man and informed the Interpol in Malaysia.

On Monday, when court resumed hearing of the case, FIA Deputy Director (Legal) Qaiser Mehmood informed the bench that his agency sent a letter to CPO on June 9 asking him to start the extradition process of the suspect.

The petitioner’s counsel maintained that a local court had already declared the prime suspect an absconder and issued red warrants for him.

The court adjourned the case till June 26.
