Agriculture: Use of technology stressed

1 million farmers from 23,000 villages across Punjab are being connected at the agricultural SMS services.

FAISALABAD: Speakers at an international workshop on Monday called for the strengthening of agricultural extension system through Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), which would result in increased productivity and reduce poverty. The international workshop titled ICT in extension and e-Pak organised by Institute of Agriculture Extension and Rural Development, University of Agriculture Faisalabad. Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that effective agriculture content, through text message, radio and other communication tools, is imperative to raise the adoption of latest agricultural practices among the farming community. Director General Punjab Agri Extension Dr Muhammad Anjum Ali said that the provincial government is taking measures to increase production through ICT.  He said that as many as 1 million farmers from 23,000 villages across the province are being connected at the agricultural SMS services.
