KARACHI:

The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and SITE Association of Industry have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for imparting vocational training to beneficiaries of the social security programme.

BISP Chairman Enver Baig and SITE Association Chairman Younus M Bashir inked the MoU at the office of the industrial body here on Monday.

As part of the agreement, the two sides will work for reducing poverty through placement on jobs of successful trainees of the vocational training programme and provide a trained labour force to the industry.

Speaking to the audience, Bashir said the SITE Association would provide vocational training to the BISP beneficiaries with a monthly stipend of Rs6,000 under the BISP’s Waseela-e-Rozgar programme so that they could be able to take their families out of extreme poverty.

He appreciated the efforts made by the BISP chairman for alleviating poverty and said the MoU between the BISP and SITE Association would be helpful in reducing unemployment.

Prominent industrialist M Jawed Bilwani extended full support to the BISP management in imparting training to the successful nominees for the programme. He declared that unemployment could only be eradicated through industrial development in the country.

Among BISP officials, Waseela-e-Rozgar Director General Jahangir Alam Chohan, Director General Sindh Zafarullah Soomro and Director Karachi Naveeda Erum Warsi accompanied the BISP chairman during the visit.
