KARACHI:

Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) President Abdullah Zaki has said the 11th “My Karachi – Oasis of Harmony” exhibition, which concluded on Sunday, has breached many previous records in terms of number of visitors and exhibitors.

In a statement issued here on Monday, Zaki said bustling activity continued during the three-day exhibition as around one million visitors poured into the Karachi Expo Centre to see a wide range of products and services showcased by local and foreign exhibitors.

He said the exhibition, inaugurated by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Friday, attracted scores of people, who along with their families took keen interest in the products and services displayed at more than 300 stalls.

Foreign delegates came from Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Turkey, Thailand and South Korea, who set up their stalls at the international pavilion and provided useful information about the products and services being offered by their countries.

Although the law and order situation in the city and the recent attack on the Karachi airport were likely to affect the exhibition, the interest of people clearly indicated that they were keen to support the initiatives focused on promoting the positive image of Pakistan, Zaki said.

Stringent security measures were taken at the venue of the fair with the deployment of police, Rangers and private security guards.

The organisers also set up a special pavilion for women entrepreneurs along with recreational facilities and a food court outside the Expo Centre.

A cultural stall was set up by the Indonesian consulate general in Karachi, which has been supporting the exhibition since its inception in 2004.

Indonesian Consul General in Karachi, Rossalis R Adenan, believes that such events provide an excellent platform for the business communities of Indonesia and Pakistan to interact.

“This is the way to understand each other by introducing products to people of both countries,” he said.
