A statement issued by the prime minister’s office said the issue was brought to the notice of the management and law enforcement agencies subsequently arrested Deputy General Manager Procurement and Logistics Department Shahid Ejaz. He is accused of having embezzled millions of rupees during the procurement of spare parts for different aircraft.
The Procurement and Logistics department procures spare parts worth billions of rupees annually as the procurement volume stood at Rs6.74 billion in 2013.
Recently, on the directions of the Special Assistant to PM Shujaat Azeem, 338 officials and officers of PIA who forged their educational degrees were removed from service.
On Azeem’s request, Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt has released five officers to streamline the process of procurement and logistics in PIA. The team, brought in from the PAF, will be headed by an air commodore with experience in logistics, material management and inventory control. The team has previously managed the F-16 Logistics Management System and will implement automated real time inventory management in PIA.
Azeem has directed PIA management that spare parts shall be procured on merit with transparency and only through Original Equipment Manufacturers. Furthermore, enterprise resource planning is being implemented all across the organisation including the procurement function.
At the same time, the Technical Procurement will be separated from the overall logistics setup and attached to the Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) setup. The move will put an end to past practices where aircraft spare parts were procured at higher rates and through fake companies.
Azeem has also taken notice of the fact that the Procurement and Logistics Department purchased Ground Power Units many years ago, which remain unused.

My father knows this man. He has worked with him in the same department. He says he is being set up because he is not actually corrupt.
Wadera corruption party has stuffed PIA with crooks and thieves, they are doing their "job"
To all Saleem, Blithe & Hamza....remember if we are dishonest, incapable & weak in governing, we will have no face to face anyone from the point of strength....Strong & capable person & leader will take over. This is the universal truth. I am not in favor of any dictator, but a strong, honest & Patriotic leadership is what our country need. Name any one person with these qualities. Money does not necessarily bring good leaders. There are many rich people, but are not good leaders....why many of our Parliamentarians do not pay taxes & many of them hold fake degrees. Why ? have the dictators of our time forced them not to read & study ? why do they not be honest & pay taxes nor do they like to tax income from agriculture, although 22 % revenue is contributed in the GDP by agriculture but only pay 0.1 % as tax ? is this fair & the list is long. The civilian govt has not implemented 22 articles from the Constitution & main ones are FREE education & local govt election & article 62 & 63...& the list is long...dictators have not done before because they were dictators, but who stopped the civilian govt from implementing the articles as per constitution which the civilian lawmakers have passed in Parliament. Who stopped the last govt & this govt from broadening the tax base ? According to Mr Dar, Pakistanis have $ 200 billion is Swiss bank or overseas off-shore account...if we had this much money why last govt this amount back ? dictators not done anything for the country..agree..what has the last govt & this govt for last one year done ? the rich has gone richer & poor poorer...during end of 2006 the percentage of poor people living below poverty line was 33 % & the past 6 years according to mr Dar it is 60 %...why ? judge a person & leader from the performance not his uniform....
@Saleem:
The day civilians have the guts to audit their account etc;
@Blithe:
Tried by a civilian govt & replaced by a PAF officer & his team....what justification ?...that means we have run out of capable & honest civilian officer.
@Humza:
What has democracy given to the poor people for the last 6 years...you know it, yet do not have the guts to face the poor public...go to them & give your mantra & you will get the answer. I am not in favor of dictatorship but strong and honest leadership, but the last 6 years of civilian govt has not been able to provide the basic to the poor people & there has been no accountability & most of the important institutions are without their heads...is this the way to govern ? why a civilian was replaced by an PAF officer & their team ? there are many other govt & semi-govt & autonomous bodies which have similar problems, has leaks stopped under civilian officials ? the case of RPP is very much fresh...& there are many but not one has been finalised yet..we have a very good example of AGP who has given himself raise & takes monetization money, but additionally uses the official vehicles. He was summoned by the PAC committee, he has not bothered to attend nor responded. And we have many similar examples which have been reported through media, but no accountability has been done. In which country of the world is " money made through illegal means " are returned under voluntary act as per NAB rule. Is not returning such money by itself an acceptance of guilt, yet they go scot-free. Hence, when there is no conviction, you think there is any use of accountability where there is no fear & deterrence for others to commit such act with impunity, knowing that once caught will go scot-free against " voluntary " return...
@ishrat salim: Yes it is great to see co operation and a crack down on corruption. Do you not realize that when developing countries have problems with transparency and embezzlement, the answer is not military rule or dictatorship but strengthening accountability and institutions? You have hardly given democracy six years and you are against it as an institution? Five years of the last government and 1 year of the current government have done more to uplift Pakistan than almost a decade under a military dictator. It is unwise to think only elected officials and baeurocrats and civilians are corrupt whereas only a man in military uniform is honest- they are all part of the same society. Build the society but don't just install another military man who invariable does worse.
@ishrat salim: May I remind you that it's the civilian government under which this guy was tried.
Stick to the topic and stop giving pre-recorded answers
@ishrat salim: Who will investigate the corruption in arms deals.
Per how much money you able to recover ? That the most important questions.
That's good but what about the big fish?
Technology Is The Best Revenge :)
Good move....requesting people of experience from PAF has exposed that common people...may be literate, but are corrupt to the core...no wonder, after failure of democracy & continued poor performance by the civilian govt, we start demanding martial law...why ? this is the reason & TODAY " Corruption etc; " are the mainstay in the bureaucratic & civilian set-up....
Excellent !! kudos !!
