PESHAWAR:

Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao asked the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa governor to convene an all-parties conference in which ways to mitigate North Waziristan’s internally displaced persons (IDP) suffering can be strategised.

Presiding over a meeting of the QWP’s election commission at its central secretariat on Sunday, Sherpao said all political parties and parliamentarians from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas should be taken into confidence about efforts being made to provide relief to uprooted families.

“The displaced people should not be abandoned at this critical time as they have left their homes under unfavourable circumstances.” He urged party workers to extend all possible support to
the IDPs.

Participants of the meeting agreed the government should have discussed the military operation with all stakeholders before launching it. They also expressed dissatisfaction over measures being taken by the provincial government to ease the plight of IDPs.

It was decided in the meeting that committees will be formed in the southern districts to provide relief to those affected.
