Schools destroyed — again

Letter November 04, 2010
Since the war against the Taliban started, some 250 schools have been destroyed in the tribal areas of Pakistan.

LAHORE: Another girl’s school fell to rubbles this week as militants destroyed the building by detonating explosives in Mohmand agency. With the destruction of this school, the total number of schools destroyed in the past few years has reached 59.

Since the war against the Taliban started, some 250 schools have been destroyed in the tribal areas of Pakistan. The smouldering of educational institutions is a major tragedy and must be curtailed. The Taliban are against modern education for both boys and girls. They believe, allegedly, that modern education is not in line with Islamic laws and thus they have a right to deprive these children of education.

As a concerned citizen I write on this pressing issue to promote education in tribal areas and prevent militants from pushing the tribal area’s generation into darkness.
