JAMRUD: A jirga comprising tribesmen, Khyber Agency’s political administration officials and Tribal Areas Electric Supply Company (Tesco) representatives decided that electricity would be available in the agency during peak hours of Ramazan and double connection system would be ended.

Members of the jirga on Saturday unanimously decided that tribesmen who were using double electricity connections should end the practice and in return they would be given electricity during Sehri and Iftar times in Ramazan, to begin at the end of this month.

Political Tehsildar Irshad Khan asked Tesco officials to relax the load-shedding schedule during Ramazan and assured them of full cooperation of the administration in removing illegal connections.

Tribal elders Malik Wazir Kokikhel and Malik Mir Aslam also discussed various issues regarding electricity in the area. They told Tesco officials that electricity was crucial for fulfilling their basic needs, including supply of water.
