KARACHI: Leaders of three town associations met the top brass of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and complained about growing cases of kidnapping for ransom in recent months.

They said businessmen and industrialists were being kidnapped in Karachi and the worsening situation could be gauged from the fact that around 17 businessmen had disappeared in the past three to four months. They criticised the police and Rangers for their failure to ensure the safety and security of people in the city.

On their visit to the KCCI’s head office, the representatives of North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry, Federal B Area Association of Trade and Industry and SITE Super Highway Association asked the KCCI leadership to take up the security situation at the highest level.

“The business and industrial community of Karachi is the supporter of democracy and does not want the army to take over the country, but at the same time we demand immediate action against the criminals irrespective of political affiliations,” a press release quoted them as saying.

The KCCI leaders assured them that the chamber would utilise all its resources to tackle the law and order situation in Karachi.

The businessmen urged the government to use all resources at its disposal like police, Rangers, Frontier Corps and even army as it is the duty of the state to provide security to the life and property of its citizens.

It was agreed that the KCCI along with all seven of its affiliated town associations would undertake joint steps to fight the poor law and order situation.

Every town association will bring a small delegation to the KCCI’s head office on June 23 to discuss and devise a clear line of action on how to deal with the rising lawlessness.
