LAHORE: Mutahidda Quami Movement’s lawmaker Tahira Asif succumbed to her injuries Thursday night, a day after she was shot while resisting a robbery in Lahore.

Tahira was in a coma after being attacked by two armed men who tried to loot her while she was buying fruits. The robbers shot Tahira when she refused to hand over her valuables and tried to raise an alarm.

Soon after the news of her death broke out, MQM workers swarmed Sheikh Zayed Hospital chanting slogans against the Punjab government and demanding that the government take rapid action and arrest the culprits.

Condemning the attack, MQM’s leader Khalid Maqbool claimed that Tahira was a victim of target killing. “MQM will not be deterred by such acts,” he added.

Medics said that the MQM MNA had received one bullet in the abdomen and another in the left leg.

Tahira is survived by two sons and a daughter.
