PM's reaction

The PPP election manifesto was based on the five Es: education, employment, energy, environment and equality. Where has there been positive movement on any of those fronts? The prime minister is right, the country can ill-afford mid-term elections. Equally, however, it can ill-afford a government which doesn`t govern. (dawn.com)

PM's fury

Perhaps, rather than directing so much fury to attacking 'conspirators', the PM should focus on the charges they make. Most of these revolve around the issues of governance. It is quite apparent that there has been a terrible failure in this regard. Most people would agree. Mr Gilani need not dissolve the assemblies. But he should certainly attempt to improve the working of his own government, going about this rationally and calmly. (thenews.com.pk)

Words without substance

As for the whole issue of midterm elections, these are very much a part of the democratic process and if the major opposition party sees this as the only way to resolve the present crisis of governance, then there is no harm in moving to seek for such an action. All around there is chaos and instability alongside rising corruption and nepotism. (nation.com.pk)

Apparently, some of the impatient PML(N) bigwigs are hell bent on getting rid of the government whatever it takes, believing that the ends justify the means. An attempt to unseat the sitting government through an in-house change would once again introduce horse-trading in national politics. The tussle, however, will not remain confined to Islamabad alone.
