Cracking down: Four extortionists arrested

Upon interrogation, Ihsanullah provided vital information about other gang members.

Gulbahar police on Wednesday arrested four members of a gang of extortionists also involved in kidnapping for ransom.


Addressing a news conference at Gulbahar police station, SSP Operations Najeebur Rehman said on May 16, an official of the CM House received a call to cough up Rs2 million. The official then lodged an FIR with the police, who then  initiated investigation and arrested Ihsanullah. Upon interrogation, Ihsanullah provided vital information about other gang members, including a woman and one Aslam Khan.

Meanwhile, Kabuli police arrested four suspected terrorists with three explosive devices during routine checking late Tuesday night.

Police said Muhammad Iqbal, Fahim and Farhatullah were intercepted late night following which the accused opened fire at the police. The police, however, gave chase and arrested them. Later, another gang member identified as Syed Zaman was also arrested. Police said the mobile phone recovered from the men had been used in at least eight cases of extortion across the district.
