"We will not influence the registration of FIRs, they can even be registered against me," the Punjab chief minister said while addressing a press conference.
A judicial commission was set up to investigate into the incident in which eight people including two women – were killed, while 85 others sustained injuries in a clash between the supporters of Dr Tahirul Qadri and police. An application has also been submitted to the High Court for this purpose.
Chief minister Sharif has requested the Chief Justice Lahore High Court that the Judicial Commission should hold investigation on daily basis. It would be a big favour of the chief justice if investigation could be completed within week, said CM.
"I sympathise with Tahirul Qadri, and I assure him that those responsible will be punished without delay," the minister said.
Shahbaz further added that facts will be brought to the public regarding the incident, and justice will be served.
"I have always dealt with miscreants with an iron hand," he said.
The minister said the barriers were removed by the police, and permission for the removal was not his responsibility.
Rs3million compensation announced
Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif announced a compensation of Rs3 million for families of each of the victims.

watching tv clips it is clear Police is not well trained in crowd control. There are ways without resorting to killing. Crowd,s was definitely unruly. Removing or not a barrier is not up to people. Some body has to have authority to do the job. If you do not like it go to court. This guy from Canada is fomenting evil at a time when Pakistan is at War. Behavior of politician is as usual opportunistic. You not only need democracy but also Rule of Law. Those who caused trouble should face the music.

@Waseem Sarwar: Nope, not a bit ashamed. You seem to forget that the casualties included policemen too, so these PAT activists were not exactly the peace lovers they claim to be. One simply does not challenge writ of the government, period. And if someone does, the government reserves the right to use force. Arguing that such use is selective is irrelevant.
If high handedness is indeed proven, then the guilty need to be punished. Lets wait and see. Though it would be interesting if the judicial commission finds that the police was indeed attacked first and reacted as a result. When bullets go flying in such a situation, they don't discriminate between friend and foe, young and old, male and female.
I do agree that law should be the same for everyone and so encroachments around CM and other "VIP" residences should be removed. I hope that day comes soon. But such a day is unlikely to be brought around by people like Qadri and his followers, especially if they continue to behave like they have been behaving recently.

This was the beginning of the Deutsche Reich which later became the most disciplined and educated class among the Nations. Pakistan army has no reason to run around the country like headless chickens and policing the people and shying away from facing the equivalents. How the Punjab Police directly opened fire against the demonstrators. There are various other measures which can be taken by the law enforcement agencies to defuse the situations.

But then came the shock to the military strategists when they were unable to confront foreign power, and the military is on one foot, Gone are the Reagans and the Nixons too, and the Talibans rose from the dead and now the Prime Minister is playing the Australians aborignis music and telling the army to dance all over the land but leave the office of Judiciary and the Prime Minister alone.
