A well-organised wardrobe — instead of a jumbled mess of clothes and accessories— means you’ll maximise all your sartorial purchases.

A well-organised wardrobe — instead of a jumbled mess of clothes and accessories—means you’ll maximise all your sartorial purchases.

The first and foremost step is to declutter as suggested by whowhatwear.com. It might not be easy, but getting rid of or donating old clothes is pivotal to making room in your closet. Next step is to arrange those gorgeous clothes you own, here is how you can:

Tops

If you have the space to hang everything, hang everything. You’ll wear more if you can see it.

Jeans

This is more of a personal choice. You could organise them according to the cut, brand, colour, style or size, or none of the above. Preferably, you should hang by the hem and organise by dark to light denim.

Pants and shalwars

Hang them using clips and fold in the sides so the outside of the garment isn’t marked by the clips. This also makes everything look uniform on the hanger and gives a tidier look.

Kameezes, kurtas and dresses

For dresses, kurtas or kameezes, it is recommended you hang them by colour rather than length. Start with sleeveless and go to long-sleeve. Never leave clothes, in the dry cleaning or plastic garment bags. The chemicals from dry cleaning attack the fibers of your clothing and cause damage.

Bags and scarves

Bags should be made as visible as possible. It’s hard to change bags if you can’t see them. Scarves folded in piles according to colour and material works best, and makes it easy to pull one out without ruining the rest.

Shoes

Organise your shoes according to colour and style. Also, preferably arrange them such that the right shoe toe and the left shoe heel is out, this makes it easy to find what you wish to wear. Tennis shoes and flip-flops may be placed in the least seen place.
