BB was aware of risks: Sherry

LAHORE: Senior PPP leader Sherry Rehman said the late PPP leader Benazir Bhutto was aware of risks to her life and had suggested a neutral UN investigation in case of her death.

Speaking exclusively to Express, she said Benazir was aware that she was facing an open line of fire when she returned. Ms Rehman added that therefore Ms Bhutto wanted the UN to conduct an investigation if anything happened to her as she was not in favour of any small FIR which could be subverted.

Ms Rehman said the doctors had submitted a report that Ms Bhutto was killed by the bullet wounds and shock wave from the bomb blast.

Aamir Mansoor | 14 years ago | Reply I can fully understand what Sherry Rehman means by a small FIR. Dozens of these are registered only to be put on the garbage heap. No action is every carried out on these and they stay there to be used as political fodder as and when required. It is a major pity that such a staunch PPP senior politician like her has no place in the PPP of today and all because she stands for principles like the Late Shaheed Benazir. Only the senior lot out of the PPP can force the Government to eventually unmask and bring to justice the true killers of BB. The UN report is in my opinion clear on the issue that even the present government is not following through with a proper criminal investigation. Just being happy with the fact that the PPP's point of view is being partially reflected in the report and that it has not sprung any surprises wont satisfy a very large number of people in this country. A proper commission should be set up to investigate the matter with people like Sherry Rehman being members of it.

anwaarahmad | 14 years ago | Reply Sherry is behaving quite differently with a sense of honour in contrast with Naheed Khan and Safdar Abbasi,who are fueling the fire of revenge blackened the hearts of some anchorpersons.It is time to form high level inquiry commission,who can question I.SI,who were the hosts of 4 accomplices of the murderers,who are the persons in uniform who have absconded since the evening of murder and who ordered Saud Aziz to wash away the blood of great leader with many proves leading to the murderer.

If BB wanted a UN investigation, now that the report has been released - pointing out that the military and the government of the time hindered investigations what actions will be taken. The report notes that the ISI severely hindered investigations immediately after the incident. Today the then ISI chief is COAS today. Is there going to be any accountability or questions raised? Of course not! Even though BB's party (supposedly) is in power its inability to raise questions and investigate those towards whom questions are being raised will clearly demonstrate that regardless of passing resolutions and amendments, the real power lies far beyond the public domain. Read: Worse for Mr Musharraf and the army, the 65-page report accuses his government and its agents of a “deliberate” effort to cover up the circumstances of Ms Bhutto’s murder—including hosing down the crime scene less than two hours after the attack and ensuring no post mortem was carried out on Ms Bhutto’s body. It also finds that Pakistan’s intelligence agencies, including the main army-controlled Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), “severely hampered” investigations into the crime.
