The election tribunal on Friday suspended the membership of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) lawmaker Zareen Gul, from PK-58 Torghar, over bogus votes cast in the May 2013 general elections.
The tribunal has also ordered re-polling at the 21 polling stations at which fake votes were allegedly cast in favour of Gul. The runner-up, former Awami National Party MPA Namroz Khan, filed a petition against Gul claiming he rigged the elections at 21 polling stations for women. The tribunal, headed by Ziauddin Khan, subsequently ordered verification of thumb prints.
On Friday, NADRA’s representative submitted a report confirming that votes being questioned carried fake prints. Since women were not allowed to vote by the tribesmen, fake votes were cast in the said polling stations.
